Annual Fine Arts Fair, Exhibition at Mother Lode

The deadline to participate in the Mother Lode Art Association’s 67th Annual Fine Art Show and Exhibition is fast approaching.

To get an entry form, go to or visit the Aloft Gallery on Washington Street in Sonora. Entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, March 18.

The Art Show is the main fundraising event for the Mother Lode Art Association and proceeds from entry fees, art sales, silent auctions and raffle sales are used to support arts education in area schools.

The show at Sonora Opera Hall, 250 S. Washington St., opens April 8 at 5 p.m., with an awards show at 7 p.m. The show will be open on Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Music will be offered on Friday and Saturday evenings. There will be a raffle and a silent auction that will end at 2 p.m. Sunday. The grand prize in the raffle is a work by Susie Hoffman entitled “Summer Pleasures”.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Aloft Gallery in Sonora and are available for purchase at the show. You don’t have to be present to win.

This year, the association has added a juried student art exhibition, open to participants up to the age of 18. Students may submit a work, two-dimensional or three-dimensional, in any medium, free of charge, by submitting an entry form by March 18. Ribbons will be awarded.

The categories for the adult exhibit are Acrylics and Oils, Watercolor, Mixed Media, 3D, Pastels, and Foothill Favorites (Any Medium). In addition to the prestige of winning at the annual event, there are a few prizes: Best of Show, $300, People’s Choice, $100, Diane Sanguinetti Honorary Award, $100, Category 6, $100, and prizes in categories 1 to 5 for first, $100, second, $75 and third, $50.

Simultaneously, the Sonora Photo Club will be sharing images from its internal photo contest by Sonora Photo Club members.
