Art Talk – Art around the city

[ad_1]

Two years ago, local artist Beata Nowak wanted to rekindle her passion for painting when a Google search brought her to the Naperville Art League (NAL). The Homer Glen resident, intrigued by the League’s Fourth Friday monthly event (now suspended due to COVID), visited the Naperville Fine Art Center & Gallery where she met with NAL members keen to l ‘welcome into the fold. Soon after, Beata joined the organization and was recruited to lead Art Around Town (AAT), a revolving art program that pairs places with wall spaces with artists with works of art.

Beata was launched, and under her leadership the 15-year-old program grew intentionally and organically. With the help of her husband, Dave, Beata now spends every other Saturday installing the work of a jury of up to 30 NAL artists in a new exhibition at participating venues: Colbert Custom Framing & Art Printing, Elate Salon , Ellman’s Music Center, Lucky Penny Diner & Deli, State Office Representative Janet Yang Rohr, Sweetwater Coffee & Tea and Tasting deVine Cellars.

The new Washington Street office suites will be added to this list in mid-January 2022.
Main Street Promenade is also an ATT partner and, due to the scope of the project, it is led by NAL board members Patricia Melekus and Linda VanderKolk, and operates under a different set of guidelines.

“I feel fortunate to work with store owners and business leaders in Naperville who appreciate the value of our program and its impact on local artists. Customers respond positively to displays and some buy art right off the wall! Beata continues: “It’s so inspiring to transform a space other than a gallery into an exhibition area showcasing the excellent work of our members – work that otherwise could be stored in the back of the house. ‘a studio somewhere. “

Anyone interested in learning more about AAT is encouraged to contact NAL. Although there is no charge to participate, artists must be active members of the League. Naperville organizations interested in joining the program are also encouraged to direct inquiries to [email protected] or call (630) 355.2530.
