Exterior mural by artist Felipe Ortiz in New Addison Apartment Community showcases wildlife in East Boston’s Belle Isle Marsh

Breathtaking murals from Ortiz and fellow artist Mia Cross are on display in Addison.

Cross was also commissioned by Redgate for new lobby art at One North of Boston.

BOSTON, MA / ACCESSWIRE / December 27, 2021 / Colombian artist Felipe Ortiz incorporates images of the native wildlife of the Belle Isle Marsh in East Boston into a new mural he created for the exterior of the 230-unit Addison apartment community in Orient Heights.

Ortiz’s breathtaking artwork adds a second major artistic element to Addison’s property of 230 units: fellow muralist and cross-media artist Mia Cross created a dramatic interior paint that is the Addison Hall’s signature feature.

Located at 144 Addison Street, the project is by Redgate the latest development of high-quality city apartments along the rapidly growing Blue Line corridor between Revere and Boston – largely along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

“The place we’ve created in Addison is very welcoming and hopefully inspiring to the artist community, and these wonderful pieces of public art reflect that idea,” said Damian Szary, Director of Redgate. “Felipe’s mural not only created great beauty on the exterior of our building, but it was actually designed to help make the intersection of Ashley and Boardman safer, especially with vehicles that are heading to the nearby Marriott parking lot. “

Ortiz’s unique murals are a fusion of artistic themes depicting the US cityscape, its expansive landscape, and fast-paced city environments. In addition to the vibrant culture of Colombia, colors, sounds and dense natural landscapes. For this mural in Addison, Ortiz took these two factors and set them aside by taking the elements of nature from East Boston.

Addison Continues Redgate’s tradition of innovation and creativity by designing amenities for residents and community spaces that enable a vibrant urban lifestyle. The project includes a one-of-a-kind on-site creative space for residents to create, test and launch design concepts, artwork and other projects, establish businesses and collaborate. Remote working lifestyles are also well catered for with on-site co-working space, including private offices and conference rooms. Residents began to occupy the units in December.

The Addison maker space, which opens directly to the outdoors via a garage door, will feature state-of-the-art equipment and tools (including a 3D printer, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, sewing machines and digital embroidery, gardening tools to care for houseplants, etc.), as well as an industrial kitchen where residents can experiment with everything from chocolate making and beer brewing to creating sustainable biomaterials from food waste.

To cross, a Boston-based artist who is originally from Framingham – Cross’s work has been featured in numerous galleries and exhibitions in New England and New York, and his work lives in private collections across Europe and the United States. In addition to creating the Addison Lobby mural, Redgate also commissioned to produce new lobby artwork at One North of Boston in Chelsea, which Redgate developed in partnership with Trans Del Corp.

Redgate also commissioned artwork for Addison by Cyril Conan and Craig lupien. Conan’s work is a two-story mural located in the main amenity space, he is the son of French immigrants, which is reflected in his work. Conan produced site-specific installations and murals in several spaces, including the Museum of Fine Arts and Boston City Hall. Lupien’s mural, which will be completed in the spring, will be on the Addison Pool side. Lupien produces mixed art treating color and line as a concept expressing the non-verbal.

The range of high-end equipment at Addison to East Boston is designed to enhance residents’ vibrant living experience and help build a sense of community. These include a climbing wall, fitness center and studio, basketball court, game room, animal washing facilities room and a community foyer with bar without elevator. Apartments are available in studio, one, and two-bedroom configurations with high-end finishes as well as private rooftop balconies and terraces available in select units. Other community improvements include a revitalized streetscape and a new sidewalk as part of the development goal to further improve this exciting and vibrant neighborhood.

“The creativity, aesthetic beauty, and pioneering drive of people to forge their own path is truly embedded in the spirit and soul of what Redgate has created here in Orient Heights,” said Ty Brieske, Community Director D’Addison, de Greystar – the development property manager and rental agency. “These beautiful works of Felipe and Mia along with the art of Cyrille Conan and Craig Lupien have been central to the creation of places in Addison.”
