Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi inaugurates the 10th edition of the Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival
Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi said, “Art unites people across borders and brings positivity and hope to the community. At Ras Al Khaimah, one of the oldest cultural destinations in the region with a proud heritage of traditional arts, we focus on promoting artistic pursuits in our community. The Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival not only showcases creativity but also provides a platform to engage in cultural exchange with international artists. Our patronage of the arts further underscores our values and cultural ethos to connect people, promote creativity, enrich their lives and celebrate the spirit of harmony.
In addition to many festival activities taking place at Al Jazirah Al Hamra – a symbolic bridge between the cultural heritage of Ras Al Khaimah and the contemporary art scene – the 2022 edition again incorporates exciting satellite exhibition sites in two of the most iconic places in the emirate: The public observation deck of the highest peak in the United Arab Emirates, Jebel Jais, and the Open Park on the island of Al Marjan.
The outdoor exhibition of art, photography and sculpture is organized by the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research and features a diverse collection of works by over 150 artists, hailing from over 45 countries. The festival includes a dynamic program of film screenings, workshops, guided tours and other events held at the various festival venues.
Participating Emirati artists this year include Yousef Al Zaabi and Abdullah Lutfi, while highlights of the event include a weekend of outdoor cinema and indoor screenings at Vox. A weekend dedicated to pets for animal lovers and with an array of family activities for all ages, the Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival is a weekend dedicated to celebrating the rich culture and heritage of the United Arab Emirates.
Festival director Suqrat bin Bisher said, “We are honored to have such a prestigious roster of artists with us again this year, with the talent on display reflecting how the festival is truly becoming a destination for regional talent. and international”.
This year, the festival benefits from new partnerships with the NYUAD Art Gallery and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, reaffirming its commitment to connecting and developing the wider cultural community of the United Arab Emirates.
The United States Mission to the United Arab Emirates, which has been a key partner of the festival since 2016 through its grant program to cultivate cross-cultural understanding and support local talent, offers a range of performances throughout the Festival. US Consul General Meghan Gregonis said, “The US Mission to the United Arab Emirates is once again proud to partner with the Al Qasimi Foundation at the Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival. Our partnership with the Al Qasimi Foundation promotes mutual understanding and cultural exchange between the United States and the United Arab Emirates and strengthens Ras Al Khaimah’s vibrant and creative economy.
The Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival, a free event running until March 31, is presented by Marjan, one of the emirate’s leading master developers, and supported by other local partners including Stevin Rock LLC, Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ), RAK Ports, RAK Tourism Development Authority, RAK Hospitality Holding, RAK Transport Authority, RAK Hospital and Vox Cinemas.
